In contrast to the United States, Britain has taken a tough stance against jurors caught conducting improper communications and research. As the articles below illustrate, another British juror is being prosecuted for turning to the Internet to learn about the case she was sitting on. To date, British authorities have handed out the stiffest penalties (in one case a juror received an 8-month jail sentence) to jurors caught violating the courts' prohibitions against improper juror comunications and research. It will be interesting to see if Britain's get tough approach is more effective than the soft approach generally used in most U.S. courts.
