Bucking the growing trend to use anonymous juries (see Blagojevich trial and terrorism trials), the Oregon Supreme Court today overturned the conviction of a sex offender because the jurors that decided his case were anonymous (Oregon v. Sundberg). According to the Oregon Supreme Court, anonymous juries are permissible "when the trial court finds that the circumstances of a particular case justify that practice and takes steps to mitigate any prejudice to the defendant." In the case of Sundberg, neither one of these requirements were met.
