This week the change of venue motion filed by Aaron Hernandez was denied by the judge hearing his case. As most are aware, former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is on trial for the 2013 killing of Odin Lloyd, who was dating the sister of Hernandez's fiance.
The attorneys for Hernandez wanted his trial moved outside of the Boston media market. In support of their change of venue motion, the defense attorneys cited two telephone polls commissioned by them in which half of the respondents said they believe Hernandez is definitely or probably guilty of Lloyd's killing. The judge, however, determined that the defense has not shown that the community's prejudgment of Hernandez would prevent the empanelment of an impartial jury.
As a general rule, it is difficult to win a change of venue motion. Earlier this month, a federal judge in Massachusetts hearing the case of the suspected Boston Marathon bomber also denied a change of venue motion.
