The Civil Jury Project's April newsletter is available here. This edition has articles by both Professor Jeffrey Abramson and E. Pierre Deess who take opposing views on the recent Supreme Court decision Pena-Rodriguez v. Colorado. As some will recall, this opinion prohibits the invocation of the no-impeachment rule for jurors when a juror makes a clear statement indicating that he or she relied on racial stereotypes or animus to convict a criminal defendant. The newsletter also has an article by Professor Alexandra Lahav that discusses the role of the jury in a vibrant democracy. She notes that in some ways the jury is more important than voting.
