Louisiana recently passed a law to make individual votes by jurors anonymous. This only matters because Louisiana is one of two states, the other being Oregon, that allows 11-1 and 10-2 criminal verdicts. This new law prohibits judges from polling jurors orally, which occurs at the end of trial. Also, the written jury poll will now be automatically placed under seal by the court. This is not the case now. This all may become moot as the state considers whether or not to join the rest of the country and require unanimous verdicts.
